Life Lessons From Oprah Winfrey

Armed with these little pearls of advice from Oprah, we can all make our lives less stressful and happier.

I grew up watching Oprah Winfrey talk shows. At that time the glamour was all that appealed to me. Over the years, I have learned a couple of things from this woman who lives the American dream. Hers is a typical rag to riches story. She fought against all odds and has made her mark in this mad crazy world. We tell you six lessons you can and should learn from Oprah Winfrey: Be Self-Reliant: Oprah stood up and faced the world after being raped and suffering a miscarriage before the age of twenty. At a time when no one was talking about topics like rape, she brought it to our living rooms. She didn’t depend on others to follow her dreams and fight her way through it. She believed in herself to do it – herself!

Declutter Your Life: Everyone is responsible for their own messes. Clean up your messes.  It could be your house or your emotions or your daily routine – anything. We never realize how clutter drains us of energy and actually creates chaos and disharmony. Declutter to create space for opportunity, creativity, and a sense of well-being. According to Oprah, cleaning house— both literally and as a metaphor for life— is a great way to hit the Refresh button.

Remain True To Your Principles: You don’t have to agree with everything and everyone. Stand up for yourself and what you believe in.  In all her talk shows, Oprah always advocated that don’t ever devalue yourself. Be confident and don’t compromise just for the sake of it – only if you believe in it.

Never Stop Taking Risks: As a philanthropist and a business woman, Oprah never shied away from taking risks. Like any good entrepreneur she knew that there are no gains without some risk. That doesn’t mean you go right out and gamble on everything. It means that you assess your situation and take a call. Don’t limit your opportunities to grow but there’s also no need to be rash. thumb_candidate-495308-2014-01-30-15-52-58

Keep Adapting: Change is the only constant in life; failure to keep pace with the change will make you extinct.  If you want to survive, if you want to get ahead life, then you have to change with the times and embrace change instead of cribbing about it. Oprah says, “We can’t become what we need to be by remaining what we are.”

Be Passionate: If you’re passionate about your work and your beliefs, the passion will show in your work. Find what your passion is, and then build your life and work around it. Oprah says, “Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.”

Armed with these little pearls of advice from Oprah, we can all make our lives less stressful and happier.
