Job security is something that everyone is concerned about. In today’s workplace, no one is assured of their position and that insecurity is stressful to say the least. Positions are constantly being outsourced or revamped, making it difficult to believe that anybody's job is completely safe. So what can you do to ensure that you become indispensable at your workplace and don’t have to live with all these concerns looming over your head?

You may have knowledge that is unique to you, a position in the organization that is unique to you, or a skill that is unique to you.

Do Work That Matters, Not Work That's Easy: It’s so easy to just pretend to work and look busy and fly under the radar of the boss. However, if you want to become indispensable, you'll want to dig in and find work which makes a difference to the company and its success. Attack those projects first, so it shows you are proactive.
Make A Particular Skill Yours: There are some things which require unique skills. Try and monopolize and excel in those. That way the chances are that you may just be the only person who is qualified to do it. This may happen if there is retrenching or someone leaves a skill based job or when a new initiative is created that requires skill the company has never before had. That’s the time for you to step in and make your mark.
Be Open To Change: Being open to change and learning how to adapt to constant shifts is what is going to see you through. Learn to embrace change and help others see the benefits of moving with the tides.
Speak Up: Don’t be afraid if you think you are imperfect or don’t know something. Learning how to effectively communicate with your boss and team and ask questions if you don’t understand something. This shows that you are ensuring you’re performing in the best possible way for your company. It’s always good to be vocal voice your concerns, your ideas, and to let them know that you are open to learning. Ask for opportunities to collaborate with another team. Make a strong case for yourself.
Be A Team Player: If everyone thinks it’s only the boss who matters, they are wrong. The team members are as important.
